Customers say

Customers like the weight, versatility, and water resistance of the pants. For example, they mention it’s extremely lightweight, great for backpacking and hiking, and can be easily converted into shorts. That said, they appreciate the appearance and zipper. Opinions are mixed on fit and pockets.

Nice Fit, Does Not Retain Moisture (or Odors!)
I tried out the pants on very hot and humid day in Disneyland and couldn’t be happier. The legs zip out readily, and each have a sewn-in woven label marked ‘L’ & ‘R’ for quick, frustration-free removal and re-attachment. These came in handy as the weather was better suited for shorts. The shorts come up to about 10″ on the outseam – which is just right for me since I’m not a tall person at all. With the legs re-attached, I was expecting the leg fit to be similar to bog-standard military cargo pants which are roomy (maybe too roomy for me) midway below the thighs. I was pleasantly surprised that the legs fit a little narrower than plain ‘straight’ cut – and presented a nice silhouette. The fabric is very light, and dries off quickly inspite of the fact I was drenched. The built-in belt was also a plus for me, since an external belt would only be another cinch point where perspiration will pool which is uncomfortable and unpleasant to say the least. The fact that it’s made of some sort of nylon webbing also meant that it wasn’t going to absorb as much water/sweat.The cargo pockets were where my hands would naturally rest when standing, and it was a convenient to put my wallet there for easy access. The bonus of having it there instead of the back or front slide pocket was that it would swing away from the body and not sponge up the perspiration. The cargo pockets are secured shut by either a zipper (left) or a velcro-lined flap (right) — perfect for my peace of mind especially when surging with throngs of people. After a full-day at the park, I had to air out both my ‘Dri-Fit’ top and my pants overnight before packing them away for washing. The next day, I did a uhm sniff test (eeew!) just to check if the fabric retained any odors. Am happy to report that the pants had a very faint remnant – enough for one to know it was used – but not at all objectionable. The Dri Fit top was another thing altogether and if your snacking as you read this, please read this part later. It was NASTY. To be fair though, the shirt’s at least 4 years old so I guess it’s also a function of age as I’ve noticed with some gym clothes. So far it’s been a five star experience. My only concern for now is how the pants’ fabric will wear in the near future. Some of the Columbia shirts I own have a tendency to snag and pill which I guess is the nature of man-made fibers. But you can’t put a price on the comfort you gain when you’re not bothered by a drenched waist and lower back. Plus, you won’t smell as nasty, too.

Good design and materials at affordable price
Go up a size when ordering as these fit somewhat small (I am size 32/34 but size 34/36 fit better). Material is light, breathable, flexible and dries easily. Comes with a plastic buckle nylon belt. Easy to remove and install with labelled zippered bottoms for easy conversion between pants and berms. 2 front (open design), 2 rear (velcro closure with flaps) and 2 side pockets (left is zipper and right is velcro). All velcro pockets comes with flaps and a tab for easy opening. Omni shield UPF50 and omni wick protection.

Great fit, but DO order one size larger than normal
I absolutely love the shorts / pants combo. Came in handy while travelling in Thailand; the temps were super hot, but I needed pants to walk in some of the temples. This product worked perfectly. The shorts are very durable yet thin and cool to wear. The zippers were fairly easy to figure out and just took a few seconds apiece to put on, plus they roll up into a small amount of space when not used. The ONLY caution I have is to make sure to order a larger size than you would normally wear. I typically wear a waist size 36, and have plenty of clothing items in size 34 that I can fit in comfortably. I have old “fat pants” in size 38 that fortunately are WAY too big for me. However, the size 38 of this product fits me perfectly, exactly as a size 36 fits with my other garments. It is NOT at all baggy, and since most people are going for comfort and are basically going for the opposite effect of “skinny jeans,” then please order a size larger than you would normally. Thanks for reading my review!

Light and Cool Convertible Cargo Style Pants
I live in Florida and work under casual dress. The pants are light weight and cooler than heavier materials. I have not used the convertible option to shorts yet, but its nice to have the option for a two in one advantage. The material is wrinkle resistant, so pressing/ironing is not a must between wears. Washing is gentle and ironing is on a low setting. The included belt is also lightweight. It does not appear to be durable (thin nylon webbing with plastic catch), but you will not buy this for the belt. My satisfaction with Columbia products has been very good. I am happy for the pants for what they are: Lightweight, cool, cargo style, with good fit for my slim to normal size body contour.

    Great outdoor pants.
I loved these pants. great fit and high quality. wore them on our flights to Cape Town and they were very comfortable for the 30 hours of travel time. wore them on safari and around the lodge. look great and perform great. The removable bottom leg section was easy and looked great as a short.

Great Outdoor Pants – Silver Ridge
I’ve worn this style in the past and these are great hiking and outdoor pants. That’s why I chose to get two more in different colors. I’m a heavy guy (250) and they are comfortable. The convertible feature comes in handy when weather in the Northeast changes throughout the day. The waist and inseam were accurate as compared to other pants I wear. With light thermal long underwear, they can handle cooler temperatures. I’ve used them for cross-country skiing with no problems. The fabric is light but protects against the wind and they dry quickly.

Belt prone to loosen up requiring periodic adjustment. Feel great to wear.

I bought these pants for my son that usually only wears shorts and hates pants. He’s actually worn them as pants on several occasions, for hours at a time. I ordered based on measurements and everything fit exactly as expected.
